DESCRIPTION:The recent history of innovation has shown a progressive change
in collaboration models enabled and facilitated by the Internet\, from mo
dels such as distributed resources\, shared mails and discussion groups to
allowing multiple individuals to have access to web page content\, portal
s and intranets\, to more advanced models such as open source\, peer to pe
 er\, wikis\, crowdsourcing\, virtual communities and web-based platforms.
A large number of new innovative enterprises engaged in different competit
ive markets by promoting innovation both in products and in services throu
gh open innovation web-based platforms\, which allow for the collaboration
of individual users and companies and for so-called crowdsourcing. A key
issue concerns the identification of the most important motivations that c
ould attract users with a specific role to proactively participate and con
tribute to the open and collaborative innovation processes. During the sem
inar\, after highlighting the theoretical background\, grounded on large b
ody of psychology and sociology literature on the motivation behind collab
oration\, I’ll discuss the results of the analysis of 26 open innovation w
eb-based platforms based on a multiple research methodology (qualitative e
mpirical study\, factor analysis and multi-dimensional scaling). I will al
so analyze the effects of ‘motivational systems’ and platform models on th
e attraction of the individuals characterized by different innovation role
