DESCRIPTION:The initial vision of the Internet of Things (IoT) involved tag
ging physical objects with RFID transponders. The concept has since expand
ed to include sensor networks able to provide real-time intelligence throu
gh local networks or global interconnections. Today cities are increasingl
y becoming augmented with sensors through public\, private\, and academic
sector initiatives. As a result\, IoT data have become crucial for trainin
g AI models and sustaining data-driven smart ecosystems.Starting from an o
verview of the past and recent research activities related to the realizat
ion of the IoT\, in this seminar the speaker's most recent research activi
ty will be presented\, specifically focusing on the integration of Long-Ra
nge Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN) into the emerging paradigm of Cloud Edge Co
mputing Continuum. A complete secure solution will be presented on how to
incorporate LPWAN architectures in CECC enabling faster data processing wh
ile guaranteeing service continuity and full-backwards compatibility.

tained my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Patras in 2003
and my BEng in Computer Systems from the University of Kent in 1997. I hav
e participated in R&D projects co-funded by the EU in the areas of Pervasi
ve Systems and the Internet of Things\, Distributed Computing and the Futu
re Internet and Applications of Data Science in Intelligence Environments.
\nThe courses I am involved in:\nInternet of Things: Algoriths and Servic
es - An MSc level course introducing emerging application scenaria\, studi
es characteristic design approaches of Pervasive systems and networks\, ex
amines essential algorithmic techniques and performance limits and provide
s the foundations for engineer algorithms in open-design.\nComplex Biomole
cular Network - A BSc level course on algorithm design\, graph theory\, pr
obabilistic analysis applied in bioinformatics.\nSmart Objects - An MSc le
vel course that introduces the basics of smart objects\, i.e.\, objects ab
le to interact with an external environment and with other objects.\n\nSom
e recent topics of focus:\nRecent Advances Technologies for Intelligent Se
nsing in Augmented Reality Environments - As global telecommunication mark
et shift towards the 5G era\, it becomes obvious that it is now realistic
to expect the delivery of new application experiences that utilize augment
ed reality (AR) technologies and provide end users with real time as well
as real world information from the sensor data collected.\nGamification\,
Playfulness\, and Ludicity in Intelligent Environments - New types of inte
ractions are emerging that combine methods and techniques for developing p
layful elements with the potential of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) paradig
m to directly link actions\, decisions and events happening in real-life w
ith in-game educational progress and modern gaming technologies.\nAdvances
in Sensors for Sustainable Smart Cities and Smart Buildings - New ICT tec
hnologies are being developed for the intelligent management and control o
f appliances that provide reliable data to citizens and guide them to achi
eve a change in behavior and consumption practices.\nTechno-Human Collecti
ve Systems for Smart Cities Innovation - The coexistence and cooperation o
f embedded systems with our social life is unveiling a brand new era of ex
citing possibilities.\n\n \nI am always open to discuss how we can work to
gether for a MSc thesis. Feel free to come to my office for a discussion\,
or send me an e-mail.\n\n\nLink alla biografia\n\nInteressi di ricerca:
