port on data driven approaches to robot perception for navigation and othe
r applications Abstract: Recent years have seen an increasing interest in
data driven approaches to classical robot navigation problems such as Visu
al Odometry and Mapping. In particular\, in the context of visual algorith
ms for motion estimation\, classical geometrical solutions that show high
performance in controlled environments are often very sensitive to visual
noise and require careful tuning. In comparison\, data driven methods\, ev
en in their basic forms\, show consistent results when visual noise is ver
y high. This seminar will address the past and present research conducted
by the speaker on the topics of Ego-Motion and Depth Estimation\, with a f
ew considerations on future developments of the field. Applications of the
same techniques to other domains will also be presented.
